About our UN3373 Bags
When transporting biological substances – category B, a more secure and regulated type of specimen bag is required for transportation. While our regular specimen transport bags are ideal for moving a range of medical or other specimens for testing and other purposes, UN3373 bags differ in that they have a more secure design to ensure no contents that could potentially be hazardous are spilled. UN3373 transport bags can be made according to your unique specifications.
UN3373 bags are the right choice if you will be needing to transport biological substances – category B medical specimens. If you do not need to transport any hazardous specimens, our regular specimen bags may be a better fit. Additionally, if you need to transport category A medical specimens, UN3373 bags may not suffice. Instead, read more here about our 95kpa bags here.
Material
In order to ensure that the hazardous substances are secure inside, we make our bags out of a range of plastics, including:
- Polyethylene (PE)
- Low density polyethylene (LDPE)
- Linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE)
- High-density polyethylene (HDPE)
These plastics provide varying combinations of high strength, durability, flexibility, and are inert – meaning they will not react with the contents in any way. RLK Group is committed to finding the most environmentally friendly sources of these plastics where possible.
Sizing options
Depending on how your UN3373 bags will be used and what kind of specimens they will contain, you may need specific dimensions. We are more than happy and capable of delivering custom-sized bags. Simply let us know your requirements. However, some of the more common sizes we receive orders for are:
- 145x235 mm
- 165x265 mm
- 195x275 mm
Branding options
We will not place our own branding on the bags we manufacture. Instead, you are free to customise and specify what kind of branding information you would prefer on your UN3373 transport bags. Alongside this will be printed the necessary biohazard and safety logos as per regulations.
UN3373 Specimen Bags
Our UN3373 transport bags are fitted with a single-use adhesive. A more secure option is available in the form of specialised security tape as per your specifications and requirements. The benefit of this type of sealing is twofold: any tampering with the contents after bagging is immediately obvious, leaving behind a “void” message, and it is incredibly secure during transit.
Different types of security tape are available upon request. Varying levels (1-4) have different features, including but not limited to heat resistance, cold resistance, and more for other applications. UN3373 bags and their secondary packaging are also designed to be leakproof according to p650 packing instructions. We are also able to incorporate a tear-off aid if necessary to make opening the bag simple and easy to reduce the risk of injury or accidental spillage.
UN3373 transport bags are a special kind of specimen transport bag. A single-use security tape seal ensures that the contents are safely packed for transportation, while any tampering after this seal has been used is immediately evident. Simply pull the protective lining on this security tape away to expose the adhesive before folding and sticking it down.
The contents and any absorbent pads must be placed within an adequately sized bag and secondary packaging as per p650 / ADR requirements to ensure a completely leakproof and secure sealing.
According to your specifications, an absorbent pad can be included already during the production process inside each UN3373 clinical pack to prevent the spillage of liquid specimens.

UN3373 transport bags are suitable for all specimens up to what falls under biological substance – category B. UN3373 encompasses human or animal specimens that are en route for testing or diagnosis, and may include blood, excreta, tissue, and other organic substances. UN3373 or biological substance – category B specimens may be infectious but will generally not cause life-threatening conditions.
If your specimen falls under biological substance – category A, then you will need more secure leakproof bags as secondary packing that adheres to p620 as well as p650 / ADR packing requirements, such as our 95kpa bags. Alternatively, if your specimen is not harmful and non-transmissible, then our regular specimen bags may be a better fit for your use case.

No. No. For medical specimens to be transported by plane, their transport bags need to be pressure rated to ensure there are no leakages during transit. If you need to transport medical specimens by plane that fall under biological substances – category A or B, then please look into our 95kpa pressure-rated bags.
Biological substance – category B is another way of referring to UN3373 specimens. They may be hazardous, but do not pose serious threats to anyone who may come into contact with them if they are accidentally leaked.
